Georgia is the canary in the coal mine

The decision of the Georgia governor to relax some restrictions on activity and commerce 25 April was not met with universal acclaim.  In fact here’s how an article in the usually rather stolid The Atlantic puts it

       “Georgia’s Experiment in Human Sacrifice

The state is about to find out how many people need to lose their lives to shore up the economy.”

    On the local news today, they said patients hospitalized for COVID-19 has dropped by about half between last month and this month in Santa Clara County, which is the worst-hit county in northern California, maybe the whole state. SCC will go to stage 2 re-opening on Friday, which is later than the other counties. It’s just one data point, but when the largest blue state follows the Republican lead, that’s a win for Trump.

    Like him or hate him, it’s good for the country. A close look at the Georgia Department of Health website shows that the 7 day average deaths/day and 7 day average new COVID19 cases/day peaked 3 days before the lockdown was loosened on the 25th. Perhaps that is why it was done then
